Summer Paradise! Minden Edition

Minden, Ontario – a small village off of Highway 35 that won’t let something like a flood in its downtown core slow it down.  Minden is jam packed with activities and things to do and places to see in the summer.

When in Minden this summer check out the following:

  • Panarama Park – a wonderful view of Minden Village from a hill top off of South Lake Rd. as shown below.

  • Rotary Park – located off of Highway 35 just past Kawartha Dairy on the left boasts a great playground, beach, boat launch, picnic shelters – for a great way to spend the day for kids and adults alike.  From the Park, take the opportunity to ride the current on a floatation device to the town dock perhaps stopping at the Minden River Cone for Ice cream or snacks!

  • Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream – Minden is pretty famous for its legendary Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream – located on Highway 35 you’ll know you’re there from the cow on the roof of the building.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
  • The Minden Hills Cultural Centre is a 4 acre area downtown Minden that houses the Agnes Jamieson Gallery, the Minden Hills Museum,  Nature’s Place and the Minden Hills Branch of the Haliburton County Public Library. The Agnes Jamieson Gallery is a public art gallery offering visual art exhibitions year-round. The gallery’s collection consists primarily of artwork by Andre Lapine. Minden Hills Museum & Pioneer Village reflects pioneer life in the mid to late 19th Century.  It consists of seven structures, five of which are original local heritage buildings that have been relocated to the museum grounds.  Feature exhibits are located in the Sterling Bank Building- Minden’s first bank. R.D. Lawrence Place holds the estate of Ron Douglas Lawrence, a well-recognized Canadian naturalist and wildlife author. Lawrence’s life and books are displayed through changing exhibitions. The Centre grounds also offer a labyrinth, gift shops, walking trails and tours.Culture club at the library/museum/gallery/nature centre
  • Looking for some exercise?  The Minden Riverwalk/boardwalk and walking trails might be just the ticket for a meander around the river that runs through Minden.  This paved trail runs along both sides of the river and features a pedestrian bridge at one end.  The walk braches into a boardwalk that will take you either to the Cultural Centre or the Community Center (arena/ball diamonds, playground, skateboard park, tennis courts and lawn bowling) depending on which fork you take.
  • The Minden White Water Preserve is always a great way to spend a day.  Where else can you camp and enjoy watching white water kayakers challenge the river in such a beautiful  setting.
  • Looking for other fun, head south of Minden to Pole Position Kartways for some go-carting, mini-golfing, batting cages and chipping fun
  •  For the musically inclined, Music By The Gull is held on Friday nights down by the public dock and Post Office (Water St.) from 7pm – dusk and offers a smattering of local musical talent for your enjoyment.  Don’t forget your lawnchair!
  • July 19-21 Minden is also host to the Minden Hills Bluegrass Festival – for more information including the line up of scheduled preformers check them out at
  • Closer to the end of summer is the Haliburton County Fair which is sponsored by the Minden Agricultural Socity and will run this year from Friday, August 16-17th.  This is a great family time with show arenas, midway rides, music and more.  More information is found at www.haliburtoncountyfair.ca
  • Festival of the August Moon – Aug 21 @ 5:30 – Dancers, music and traditional cuisine just some of the attractions of this event.
